Anya's Ghost

Author:  Vera Brosgol
Year: 2011
Publisher:  First Second
Pages:  221

Goodreads Description:

Anya could really use a friend. But her new BFF isn't kidding about the "Forever" part...
Of all the things Anya expected to find at the bottom of an old well, a new friend was not one of them. Especially not a new friend who’s been dead for a century.
Falling down a well is bad enough, but Anya's normal life might actually be worse. She's embarrassed by her family, self-conscious about her body, and she's pretty much given up on fitting in at school. A new friend—even a ghost—is just what she needs.
Or so she thinks. Spooky, sardonic, and secretly sincere, Anya's Ghostis a wonderfully entertaining debut from author/artist Vera Brosgol.

This was a fun little graphic novel. It was very well and well drawn. Although I did enjoy the story, I was a little bit disappointed. I had expected the story to be a bit creepier than it was. At times I thought it was going to go there but instead the story just walked right up to the precipice of being scary and looked over and backed off. Brosgol did do an excellent of job of conveying Anya's feelings and opinions. She even made Anya a bit unlikable. It's a quick read and well worth the time it takes to read it. But it could have been better.
